New Church

Sam's email this week:

"Dear Family,

Thanks a million for the Emails. It sounds like everyone is having a great week. I am excited for you to get the boat out, just be careful. Everyone's lives are more important than the boats life. I am excited to hear that Joey is gonna be pitching in next weeks game. It sounds like he is becoming twice the ball player i ever was.

As for me my week has been pretty good. I told you how my area is very far from the church and that they have been building a church in my area. Well the church was supposed to be finished back in December, but for some reason or an other that did not happen. When i arrived here they kept telling us 2 weeks and it will open, but they told us two weeks every week. So i really was starting to think it would never open, but last week the area presidency ordered that we move in no matter what. So on Sunday we had church there. It was about a hundred times easier to get people to come. We had some investigators just walk in saying they have been waiting for this church to open. It was pretty cool. I love the new church a ton!

On Saturday we even had a baptism there. We baptized 2 great guys named D and P.
If i remember right I think I already told you a little bit about D. D is a young kid that has to travel very far to come to church. He got himself a white shirt and then i got him a Tie. Ever since i gave him that tie he always comes to church early every single week. I was thinks about it the other day, maybe that gift might be something that keeps him strong in the church for years to come.

P is also a young guy that has to travel very far to come to church. He actually lives very close to D. P is a guy we met the first week i was in New Legon. We would have baptized him sooner, but he had trouble coming every Sunday because of his work. He always would tell us that if the church started sooner he could come every Sunday. When we found out we were moving to the new building last week we went and saw him right away and told him that church would now be starting at 9. He was pretty happy and he asked when the soonest time he could be baptized. So we decided to baptize him the week the new church opened. It was pretty cool. I love both D and P very much.

I want everyone to know i love the very much. I want Nate to stop picking on Jenny or something is gonna happen that he doesn't want. I want you to know i pray for you every night. I hope you have a great week.

Rainy Season

Sam's email this week:
"Dear Family,

It sounds like everyone had a pretty busy week.Thank you again for the Emails.

I had a pretty good week, this morning i got up early so i could finish all my washing. When i was finished i went outside to hang up my clothes and i saw a huge big black cloud in the sky heading our way. All of the sudden i got hit by wind and the next thing i knew the cloud was above my head, then it started to poor. I grabbed my clothes and ran back into the house. It rained way hard for like 3 hours. I guess it is suppose to start raining way hard here because its the rainy season. I am excited.

On Tuesday my companion and i had a way cool experience. We were teaching a woman named R. She was telling us how all the pastors she had gone to, told her she was going to hell because she wont pay them to pray for her. We told her that it doesn't cost any money to get into heaven, and if she really wanted to go we could help her. When we said that her face instantly became so happy. She told us that when shes gets to heaven she will go and find Jesus and tell him, we were the boys who brought her to heaven. That touched me so much. When someone says something like that it makes all this work worth it. She is going to be baptized on the 5th with her husband S.

Another cool experience i had on Sunday, we were teaching this man F. He is way confused about the church because there is an apostate church that came from Sidney Rigdon in his area. After church was over i sat down and talked about the history of the church with him. When we finished i could really tell the spirit was there. I told him i can read the history of the church to you all day, F, but the reason i know its true isnt because of history, its because i can feel it. Then i said and you can feel it too huh? He just quickly nodded his head and said yes. It was pretty cool. I hope we get to baptize that guy.

It sounds like joey is becoming an athlete, when i read that he made that long throw from 3rd base to throw someone out it made me really proud. I don't want to forget so i will wish jenny a happy birthday...So...HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENNY.

Thank you for everything i love everyone so much. Have a great week!

Sharing Ties

Sam's email this week:

"Dear Family,

It was way great to talk to you yesterday. From what i heard on the phone it sounds like everyone doing way great. Thank you so much for talking with me. And mom i hope i didn't take too much of your mothers day up.

I will tell you just a little about my week that i didn't all ready tell you. We are teaching a lot of people right now, but we are focusing extra on 2 guys name C and D. C was supposed to be baptized on the 15th, but someone in the ward offended him, so he stopped coming to church. Elder Ewudzie and i are going to try and teach him about forgiveness and ill let you know if that works. We might baptize him on the 22nd if he decides to change his mind.

D is a way awesome guy that will be baptized on the 22nd. When he first started to come to church he didn't have a tie. So i decided it would be a great idea to give him one of mine. So i did so and every Sunday D comes walking in the door waring the tie i gave him and it puts the biggest smile on my face.I have to tell you D looks good in that tie, really good. He is very excited to be baptized, and we are doing everything we can to make sure he is ready.

I am sorry my Email is so short today, we traveled to Accra and went to a market called Cantamento. I only spent like 30 Cedis and bought a lot of cool things, but the trip was long and hard so i am very tired now. I was hoping because i got to talk to you yesterday you would be okay with a short one this week and a super long one next week. thankyou for everything. I love you.
have a great week.

Soul

Sam's email this week:

"Dear family,

Thank you for all the Emails. I have come to the discovery that today is almost mothers day if that makes sense. That basically means i will be getting to call you very soon. It sounds like everyone had a great week.

I had a pretty good week. Two new Elders moved into our apartment. The 2 elders names are Elder Nwachuku (from nigeria) and surprisingly Elder Luster (from about 30 minutes north of Vancouver). its pretty cool having Elder Luster in the Apartment, we talk all the time. We just go off on how cool Washington is. Overall it is way awesome having 2 more Elders in the apartment, it can get pretty loney with just you and your companion.

On thursday we were teaching 2 young guys named F and E. We have been teaching them for a while We were talking to them about the Book of Mormon. They both were refusing to beleive it. F finaly said " Even if this church is true i would defently say that this book is loosing you souls" All of the sudden i just went off, bearing my testimony. I told him that if it were not for the book of mormon i would not be out on a mission. I told him that i am not even sure i would beleive in Jesus Christ if it were not for this Book. I said "F you may think this book is loosing souls, but i know its not because i know it has gained 1 soul, and thats my soul." I continued to say many more things. I can honestly say that those words were not coming from me. Yes the were coming out of my mouth, but they were coming from somewhere down deep. When i finished i looked up not really relizing exactly what i had just said, and both F and E's faces completley changed. I cant really explain it, but it was really cool experience. I have never in my life felt so much power behind those words. The words that i know the Book of mormon is true.

On Sunday we had the awesome chance to listen to conference. I have never enjoyed conference so much. This was really the first time i really listened to what they were saying. It made me really sad that i didnt try and pay attention more when i was younger. General conference is the best and i have been missing it.

Sorry my letter is not super long today. The computer has not exactly been cooperating. We can talk a lot more on sunday though. I will try and call saturday night to let you know what time i will be calling sunday. i Love you all very much. Enjoy your week.
